Interactive Projector Screen: Low-Cost Webcam Implementation

Interactive Projector Screen: Low-Cost Webcam Implementation Tube. Duration : 2.98 Mins.

We converted an ordinary projector screen into an low cost interactive screen using a webcam. This is one of the several applications from our "Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam" proejct. Here's some of the demos used during our project presentation to illustrate our prototype. The projector and screen are ordinary ones like any others in our labs. A webcam is used to detect the presence of any lightspot on the projector screen. A program running on the computer then finds out the position of the lightspot on the screen and uses this info to control the computer's mouse cursor. As shown in the video, our prototype is able to work with the following light pointers: 1. any ordinary laser pointer (ie red light spot) 2. an ordinary pocket torchlight (penlight) 3. specially built infrared lightpen 4. infrared presentation pointer/stick. Our prototype is able to operate most (not all!) standard WinXP applications and several video games (more info on other videos). This is demo video#3 for the "Interactive Computer Interface using Webcam" project by our Audio-Visual Project lab, Elect. Eng. Div, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.
