I was a projectionist for 3 years, from 2008-2011. I also ran projectors occasionally at a drive-in, and they work basically the same way, but with different problems (like sunlight, being outdoors.) Film projection is a dying skill, so I'm glad it is being documented on YouTube.

DIY Star Trek Home Theater Construction
DIY Star Trek Home Theater Construction Video Clips. Duration : 9.70 Mins.
A woodworker scratch builds a home theater for his wife (yeah, right!) This six minute video shows construction of my home theater upgrade using the Star Trek Enterprise bridge colors. Inspired (and copied) from "The Bridge Home Theater" of Gary Reighn. I am using an Optoma TX1080 1080p DLP Projector on a 120" screen, LCARS displays running from a Dell laptop. The sound system has 7.1 audio. Lighting is controlled by X10. Four network connections interface the equipment with my home network. A Sony Blu-ray player is used for media, WDTV Live for connection to 1TB hard disk and 5TB media server, the internet and streaming from the home network. This was a 10 week project completed Thanksgiving 2010. Phase 1 consisted of wall treatments (with star ports), phase 2 included the projector, screen and speaker/Lcars displays, phase 3 included the turbolift doors, lighting, and final details. Optoma PT100 LED Projector.

I decided to buy a "cheap" projector for my non HD game consoles, such as the NeoGeo AES, The Sega CD, and the Dreamcast (with the VGA adapter for 480p of course)! It turned out better than I expected, I bought it for 9 at Amazon and well it has about 30000 bulb life being it an LED - Cons of course are as follows: It only has 50Lumens, limited connections, no remote. I own a BenQW1000 H 1080p Projector. I do recomend it if you are just getting into projectors. The Optoma is advertised as a toy, but don't let that fool you; it is a great lil projector!!!
